Ca' Hawkie, Ca' Hawkie,
Ca' Hawkie through the Watter,
Hawkie is a sweir beast
And Hawkie winna wade the watter.
Hawkie is a bonny calf,
Though she's loth to wade the watter,
While she waits the herd'll stand,
So ca' Hawkie though the watter.
All the children do adore her,
Out of the entire herd
There is none they prize before her.
Now my lad, the market waits,
But it will not wait for ever;
You’ll only get to sell your stock
Through perseverance and endeavour
So young lad, my council take,
Since that it can be no better;
Cast off both your hose and shoes
And safely drive her through the watter.
